Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project

Coastal GasLink is proposing to develop an approximately 700 kilometre pipeline to deliver natural gas from Dawson Creek to the LNG Canada gas liquefaction facility, proposed to be developed by Shell Canada Ltd. near Kitimat, B.C. Coastal GasLink Pipeline Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TransCanada PipeLines Limited.

About This Project

B.C. has an abundance of natural gas resources. Finding new global markets for B.C. natural gas will ensure continued economic opportunity for the province and its northern communities.

The Douglas Channel, near Kitimat, B.C. provides a suitable coastal port for the export of liquefied natural gas to global markets, but accessing that port requires the construction of a new pipeline to transport the natural gas from northeast B.C.

New natural gas pipelines, such as the proposed Coastal GasLink pipeline, will provide the transportation capacity needed to support continued natural gas development activities in northeast B.C. This creates jobs in the upstream exploration and production sector and generates significant royalty revenue for the provincial government, which helps to pay for public services like health care, education and infrastructure.
