The District of Chetwynd is located in the foothills of the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. It is British Columbia’s entrance to the mighty Peace River Country. Located at the junction of Highways 97 and 29 and the CN Rail mainline, Chetwynd is the natural transportation hub of the Peace River area.

Chetwynd has a young population totaling approximately 3,100 people with a trading area of about 7,000 people. Chetwynd's quality of life is high and is home to a friendly business climate. Chetwynd is a service centre for a diverse range of industries - logging, sawmills and pulping, oil and gas production and transportation, coal mining, wind farms, ranching, and farming. Businesses located in Chetwynd have access to bulk water, a selection of heavy industrial, light industrial, and commercial properties centrally located close to an airport, rail, and major highways.

Outdoor activities are abound in the wilderness surrounding Chetwynd. There is diverse fishing in the region including trout, pickerel, grayling, northern pike and Dolly Varden fishing. Hiking and biking are popular in the summer. During the winter months there is speed skating at the Rotary Park, snowmobiling in the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains plus ice fishing and hunting. Some of British Columbia's best cross country and down hill skiing is at Powder King, located 100 kilometers from Chetwynd.

Since 2005, the Annual Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Championship has visually shaped Chetwynd into a one-of-a-kind locale. Artists from all over the world compete in this unique competition.
