The City of Fort St. John, located in the heart of majestic Peace River country, is home to more than 20,000 residents, mostly young families with children. The city is the largest regional service centre in northeastern BC, servicing over 60,000 people in the region.

Early pioneers built Fort St. John into the largest city in British Columbia’s northeast region, yet, it is the modern day pioneers who continue to bring a fresh spirit of exploration, innovation and community to the City that has successfully and responsibly managed the bounty of opportunities around it. Fort St. John has grown with opportunities like the completion of the Alaska Highway in 1942 that sparked a population boom, and the discovery of high-grade oil in 1951 establish Fort St. John as BC’s Oil and Gas Capital.

Fort St. John is proclaimed as the Energetic City, which reflects not only the city's large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry, and agricultures, but also the vitality of its residents who are keen to live and work in a caring and nurturing community.

Fort St. John attracts tourists with wilderness, eco-adventures, hunting, and fishing. There are a wealth of tourism opportunities within close proximity to the city including lakes, rivers, Provincial Parks, and hiking trails. In addition, the community is home to a number of recreational facilities which include three golf courses and year-round sports complexes.
